World languages prepare students for further education and entrance into the modern workforce. It is the mission of the Foreign Language Department of McLean County Unit 5 Schools to provide instruction that ensures structural understanding of the target language and develops communicative competency. In order to accomplish this mission, instructors will:
Address the needs of diverse learners by differentiating instruction and teaching to multiple intelligences and modalities
Accommodate for special needs students
Design and implement lessons aligned to the FL Unit 5 teaching targets
Deliver instruction and direct classroom interactions in the target language
Teach and assess listening, speaking, reading and writing skills
Teach and assess syntactic, morphological, phonetic and semantic structures of the target language
Present cultural information
Pace instruction according to established curriculum guides
Articulate curriculum with other teachers
Continue professional development in world languages
